Martin Gerber adopted the Darth Vader mask as the fans had been calling him “Darth Gerber” most of the season because he wore an all black mask for most of the season. Rumours of trades and suddenly Martin was wearing an all black mask… Then he had a bunch of good games and then the “Darth Gerber” thing started… It was picked up on by the rink music guys who had been playing the Imperial March thing for penalty kills. Martin would stand tall and often being crucial to the kill… The whole thing gained momentum and he was getting called on by radio stations and chatting about the “Darth Gerber” … silly but cool for the kids and some fans….

… then he got “THE MASK” and was put on waivers near the end of the season, sad way to go out really… three mediocre seasons with a team struggling with their own internal problems, and post-cup-final partum syndrome.

Martin was one of the most impressive people I have met, very focused and intense. My daughter was absolutly in love with him, and still follows him, wishing him the best. Of all the masks I have seen that one is the one I want most of all, due to the connection with my kid and Martin.
